“Navigational Cinema” Makes Return to House on Haunted Hill Perfect for Halloween

Studios have chosen the month of October to add to the library of horror discs on HD, and it’s quite possible that Return to House on Haunted Hill is the perfect release for a Halloween party. Exclusive on the high-def versions of the disc is the use of “navigational cinema” technology which gives the viewer a choice in selecting the movie’s storyline.

This isn’t like the bonus feature on some DVDs where you can view an alternate ending. Instead, this movie has a feature that allows you to select how the plot progresses. At various points in the story, the viewer is presented with a choice about what a particular character should do, such as “leave the room,” or “save this person’s life.” The movie then continues based on the viewer’s choice, and can lead to 96 possible storylines, leading to one of four endings.

This is not an implementation of HDi, however it does represent one of the ways that high-definition player technology can provide some new ways to enjoy movies. Return to House on Haunted Hill comes out on October 16, right on time for Halloween. Watch it with some friends and try out all of the 96 storylines together. I’m sure it’ll be awesome.

Ontem assisti Blades of Glory e já achei perfeita a imagem com 4 estrelas (http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/904/bladesofglory.html); não consigo imaginar quanto melhor seria a imagem deste Transformers com 5 estrelas :D

Pensei que Transformers ia ganhar 5 estrelas no HDD, mas deram 4 e 1/2 :aiai:

Does 'Transformers' look absolutely "perfect?" No, but it is pretty damn close. And stylistically, this is somewhat of departure for Bay (at least compared to the perfume commercials passing for movies that have comprised most of his past work), so the nod to a newfound scumminess is appropriate. Make no mistake, you'll get plenty of fantastic demo material out of this one

Tô com uma dúvida cruel: Qual seria a diferença real, em termos de pura percepção, da imagem gerada num player full hd, para uma TV tbem full hd, em relação ao que vejo hoje na minha LG 1280x720, com o toshiba A2? Significativamente perceptível a 3 metros de distancia? Valeria a pena?
É que estou pesando os prós e contras na ânsia de adquirir uma full hd(player tbem).
(pergunta dirigida a quem tem ou já viu uma full hd e comparou..)
Agradeço a atenção dos amigos do forum!

Jorge, eu devo fazer este teste quando chegar meu A35, estou hoje com uma full LG e o A1 e a imagem já está excelente; pretendo colocar os 2 lado a lado para ver; em tese ficaria melhor porque você vai estar transferindo conteúdo nativo 1080p direto do disco para a TV sem nenhum upscaler ou downscaler como acontece quando você assiste numa 720p (DVD é up e HD-DVD é down) :tu:

PS. Há uma outra jogada de TVs full que aceitam somente sinal 1080p/60, então neste caso haveria uma conversão de 1080p/24 para 1080p/60; daí seria bom pesquisar mais (http://hometheater.about.com/od/televisionbasics/qt/1080ivs1080p.htm), mas geralmente nenhuma diz nada quanto ao tipo do sinal que aceitam e nem qual a versão da HDMI que estão usando.

O problema da Full é a distância ou o tamanho da tela; pelo que andei lendo e à grosso modo, se você está usando uma 720p de x polegadas a um y de distância, você precisaria das duas uma; ou aumentar em 50% o x polegadas para a mesma distância y ou manter o x polegadas e diminuir a distância y em 50% para perceber grande diferença.

Também à grosso modo, diria que mudando para uma full; o DVD e TV a cabo não HD (digital/analógica) ficam pior que na 720p, que por sua vez, ficam pior que numa 480p; lógico que se o DVD player tiver um bom chip scaler 1080p, tal qual o Faroudja/Reon/Realta HQV, como num Oppo 981 por exemplo, DVD deve ficar melhor na Full.

Como já estão chegando aqui a HDTV (Ar e Cabo) e o DVD deve dar lugar ao formato HD ...., então a Full é o caminho :legal:

1080p/60 vs 1080p/24

Access to 1080p is not only determined by whether your HDTV has the ability to access a 1080p signal directly, but also what format of 1080p your HDTV will accept.

Almost all HDTVs that accept a 1080p input signal directly can accept what is known as 1080p/60. 1080p/60 represents a 1080p signal transferred and displayed at a rate of 60 frames-per-second (30 frames displayed twice per second). This is a standard progressive scan 1920x1080 pixel video signal.

However, with the advent of Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD, a new variation of 1080p is being promoted and implemented: 1080p/24. What 1080p/24 represents is the frame rate of standard 35mm film transferred directly in its native 24 frames-per-second from a source (such as a film on a Blu-ray or HD-DVD disc). This means that in order to display this image on an HDTV, the HDTV has to have the ability to display 1080p resolution at 24 frames per second.

Up to this point, most Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD players read the 1080p/24 format information off of the disc and then reprocesses it so that it will be able to output the signal as 1080p/60, thus making it compatible with most 1080p input compatible HDTVs.

However, LG (with others to follow) are starting to introduce Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD players that output 1080p/24 off the disc directly and sends that signal unchanged to an HDTV. In this case, if the HDTV cannot process or display the 1080p/24 signal directly, the Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD player will then reprocess the 1080p/24 signal to 1080i so that the HDTV will recognize the signal. If the HDTV is 1080p/60 capable, the HDTV will reprocess the 1080i signal to 1080p/60 in order to be able to display the image on the screen.

PS. Lógico que quanto maior as fases de conversão do sinal, tanto pior deve ficar a imagem, chamando a atenção para este último caso no qual seria melhor ficar com um A1/A2/A3 que fariam a mesma coisa mandando 1080i para a TV :tu:

Nas especs 1080p LG Brasil só relata 1.1 pixel mapping mode mas na LG da Polônia (http://pl.lge.com/prodmodeldetail.do?actType=search&page=1&modelCategoryId=0102&categoryId=0102&parentId=01&modelCodeDisplay=42LY95R&model=NOTHING#), aparentemente em modelo similar ao daqui, as especs da HDMI estão bem claras: :legal:

"Not enough space for high-res audio on Transformers HD DVD

Many were left wondering why there would be no Dolby TrueHD or uncompressed PCM on the HD DVD release of Transformers. At a Transformers event, Paramount studios said that the lack of high res audio was due to space limitations on the disc, so they decided to limit the audio to Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 Surround only at 1.5 mps. Murilo, é melhor esperar os lançamentos antes para confirmar; esses australianos são os mesmos lançados em UK; acontece que em UK a Universal e outros estudios, às vezes importam a versão USA mesmo, ou às vezes lançam uma versão própria de UK, nessas versões próprias de UK é que pode conter as legendas PT-PT; estou sugerindo`a compra na Australia porque em US$ sai praticamente o mesmo preço da Amazon US; acredito que saia mais em conta do que pagar em libra na amazon UK, por exemplo, mas se alguém souber de algo mais em conta pode indicar aqui :tu:

Sony and Blu-ray have lost their exclusivity in JBHi-Fi stores with the announcement that effective from November, the major retailer will start selling HD DVD players and content. The big winner is Toshiba, with JB Hi-Fi Marketing Director Scott Browning conceding that it was the exclusive Paramount content deal with HD DVD that swung him over to the HD DVD format.
Back in February this year at the launch of the Blu-ray Disc Working Group, Browning said that JB Hi-Fi would only sell Blu-ray hardware and software because of the strength of the format.

But in an interview with SmartHouse today Browning said, "We have come to the conclusion that cutting the consumer out of a HD DVD opportunity was not right, as content is critical and the move by Paramount to support HD DVD exclusively influenced our decision. In addition, Toshiba is a strong brand and we are currently selling their computer products, and will next year be selling their LCD TVs."

He added, "The dropping of the entry-level price to a HD DVD player late last week by Toshiba was not a key part of our decision. We are focused on 1080p and the HD DVD offering from Toshiba will complement our existing customer offering. Toshiba have done a great job in expanding their CE range and we look forward to working with their team."

But Toshiba says the recent price cut on its HD DVD players ($499 for the entry-level model) coupled with upcoming marketing campaigns for new release HD DVD titles puts the format in good stead.

Toshiba ISD General Manager Mark Whittard and HD DVD Consortium spokesperson said, "In Australia, Toshiba launched its AV business in July this year, including the full HD DVD player line-up, together with the local formation of the HD DVD Consortium.

"Since then, HD DVD has experienced many milestone successes, such as Paramount's move to join Universal in exclusively producing HD DVD films, and now JB Hi-Fi's decision to sell HD DVD hardware and software. The HD DVD Consortium is excited that this latest announcement adds to HD DVD's momentum and market share gain."
Retailer JB Hi-Fi previously stocked the full line of Toshiba notebooks including HD DVD models, and now its range of HD DVD products extends to include Toshiba HD DVD players and HD DVD software from Paramount Home Entertainment, DreamWorks, Warner Home Video and Universal Pictures.

Just a year-and-a-half since they launched, high-definition players are breaching the $200 barrier. If reports on the Web are correct, HD DVD is poised to break the $200 mark before the holidays. Toshiba has told me there's no official pricing moves with regard to their MSRP; however, reports on the Web indicate Wal-Mart may be prepping to sell a $198 HD DVD player.

If so, this is a significant and aggressive move in favor of Toshiba and the HD DVD format: They would be delivering what--up until now--only a no-name manufacturer based in Hong Kong has promised. And even then, Venturer Electronics has yet to release its $199 HD DVD player to market.

Given the need for frequent firmware updates, a player such as the one posited from Venturer gave reason for concern: Would a company like Venturer, which outsources its technical support, be able to stay on top of the updates required as HD DVD discs evolve? Toshiba getting there is a whole other story, though: That's a big gun going out to the masses--complete with established and experienced technical support. Toshiba playing at the sub-$200 level makes the cheap high-def player far more interesting--even if that player is "only" capable of outputting at 1080i resolution (a drawback considering the movie content is presented at 1080p; HDTVs can deinterlace the 1080i input, but that requires you to have a TV that's up to the job).

Reaching $200 is a notable milestone, says Paul Erickson, Director of DVD and HD Market Research at DisplaySearch (a market research arm of NPD Group). "The $200 price point is considered an important financial and psychological barrier to cross for a consumer electronics device to become affordable to mainstream audiences," Erickson says. "This has been borne out in the past with DVD player, game console, and more recently, upscaling DVD player sales figures. And, according to our analysis of NPD retail sales data, consumers have thus far clearly demonstrated to be much more responsive to price, rather than content or features, when purchasing next generation DVD players. As such, getting below $200 and even $150 may actually be even more crucial for next generation formats to generate the mainstream sales numbers to succeed."

The price drop rumor stems from posts at the AVS Forum and the HighDefForum.com, where an astute Wal-Mart employee noticed that there was a new SKU entered for a $198 Toshiba HD DVD player, the HDA2-W.

If this turns out to be true, I'll be interested to see how the Wal-Mart factor impacts Toshiba's hardware sales. Earlier this year, Toshiba saw major boosts in sales with price drops this spring; a further price drop and availability in Wal-Mart could help the company, and the HD DVD format, widen its appeal to shoppers.

Já que entramos no off-topic, vamos lá ;):

Eu já acho o contrário. Olhando apenas a parte de jogos, o grande erro da Sony foi ter lançado o PS3 com BD embutido.

Se não tivesse o BD, o PS3 estaria ao preço do Xbox360 ou até menos. Vendendo mais, muito mais produtoras se disporiam a produzir jogos exclusivos e customizados para o PS3, coisa que não ocorre hoje porque há bem menos PS3 na praça do que Xbox360 e Wii.

Ou seja, o número de potenciais compradores de games para o PS3 não justifica o gasto em produzir jogos que explorem toda a capacidade do PS3. Sem jogos, não se vende o console. Sem console na praça, os desenvolvedores não produzem jogos. É um ciclo vicioso que hoje trava a expansão do PS3 como console de game.

A Sony resolveu jogar na base do tudo-ou-nada. Ou você compra o pacote inteiro (BD+game) ou não compra nada. A M$ preferiu customizar. Se quiser só o game, compre. Se quiser o HD-DVD, compre separado.

O resultado disso ? São resultados diferentes porque cada lado (Sony e M$) tem aparentemente objetivos diferentes.

A estratégia da Sony é ótima para a consolidação do formato BD, mas péssima para a consolidação do PS3 como console de game. A prioridade da Sony na consolidação do BD, na minha opinião, é porque o BD precisa ganhar a guerra, se o PS3 quiser sobreviver. Se não ganhar, o PS3 afunda junto. Se ganhar, a Sony (e por tabela o PS3) ganha um tremendo impulso.

Na verdade, penso que a Sony está jogando uma guerra em dois tempos. Primeiro consolida o BD. Depois, consolida o PS3 como plataforma de game. Se fizer o contrário, não funciona.

O problema que eu vejo é que a guerra de formatos está demorando mais que o previsto, e a Sony está sozinha enfrentando dois gigantes (Toshiba, em vídeo e Microsoft em games). É uma parada e tanto.

Já a estratégia da M$ é boa para a consolidação do Xbox360 como console de game, mas não tão boa para a consolidação do HD-DVD como formato de alta definição. Diferentemente da Sony, a prioridade da M$ é o console de game, e não a guerra nos formatos de alta definição. Exato, mas como on demand ainda não dá para baixar 2hs de 1080p; eles preferem apoiar levemente o HD-DVD até lá, porque se não, podem perder o controle do futuro on demand para o Stevie Jobs :legal:

Por via das dúvidas, já corri lá na HiDef e acabei de comprar o meu; espero que ainda tenham em estoque, o status estava: now shipping (http://www.hidefdvd.com/hd-dvd-movies.htm); porque na Amazon já tiraram de circulação; se não tiverem, espero que não debitem o meu cc antes de receber a nova remessa e pode ser até que nessa nova remessa resolvam retirar o PT-BR :bD

Toshiba Working With Microsoft On New Entertainment Xbox

Microsoft, according to insiders at Toshiba owner of the HD DVD patents, claim that Microsoft is working on a brand new Xbox that will incorporate not only a new HD DVD drive but a large hard drive and new entertainment software that is a spin off from its struggling media centre offering.
The device is being developed in response to the PS3 driving sales of games software and Blu-ray content in several countries. A recent Sony Brand Wave study conducted in five countries including the UK, Australia, France Germany and Spain revealed that a key reason that consumers are buying a PS3 is because it includes a Blu-ray player.
Recent GFK research reveals that the recently launched Xbox 360 HD DVD attach player is not selling well. Another factor that impacted early sales of the Xbox 360 was that Microsoft failed to include a HDMI port - omitted because Microsoft wanted to cut down the costs of the console in an effort to compete up against the PS3.
The new Xbox device, while allowing for extensive gaming capability, will be positioned as an entertainment hub that includes gaming and extensive wireless networking capability as well as 1080p playback. There is also talk of it including a dual HD TV tuner and EPG capability (http://www.smarthouse.com.au/Home_Office/Industry/X8C7H8B5)and a docking port for an MP3 player. For Toshiba, the device is critical if it is to be successful in beating Sony and the Blu-ray promoters.
Also being discussed is the development of an open standard docking port similar to the 17 pin iPod port. This would allow all manufacturers to use the same port for docking.

Scott Browning, the Marketing Director of JB HiFi Australia's second largest consumer electronics retailer said, "The device is a lay down mis`ere and essential for the HD DVD camp. We are told that one is coming. The PS3 has been extremely successful for Sony in getting Blu-ray off the ground and for Microsoft, the omission of a built in HD DVD player is set to hurt sales going forward as consumers are aware that the PS3 comes with a Blu-ray player."
Both Toshiba and Microsoft have also explored the possibility of a new open standard chassis system that allows an Xbox to be slotted into a HD TV screen over 40-inch. The open standard bays will allow hard drives to be upgraded and expanded similar to the way that users can upgrade the hard drive on a PC.

Anothe r big problem for Microsoft according to insiders is getting the heat and noise output from the current Xbox 360 under control so that the new device can run silently while a movie is being played. It is known that Toshiba has been working with Microsoft on this issue as it has extensive experience in notebooks and "quiet" drives. Currently most iPods incorporate a Toshiba drive.

Another benefit for Microsoft in moving to a new Xbox platform is that it can introduce new components that are less likely to fail. Currently the PS3 has a failure rate of under two percent. Recently Microsoft was forced to allow for a $1.3 billion charge against warranty claims following reports of up to a 30 percent failure rate of the original Xbox 360.

The new device is expected to be released late in 2008 or at the 2009 CES show in Las Vegas.

Hoje meu BH-100 foi pro espaço vendo King Kong 1976.
Minha irmã e meu cunhado vieram pra cá pra passar o final de ano e troxeram meus mimos britânicos.
Além do King Kong vários documentários da BBC, tudo em HD-DVD.
Meu cunhado também trouxe alguns Hds cheios de filmes e shows que ele grava na SkyHD (lá da pra gravar e trocar o hd do decoder por um vazio)
Pois bem, acabei de assistir um documentario e coloquei o King Kong pra ver, uns 15 minutos após o começo, o filme congelou.
Apertei tdo quanto foi botão, mas não adiantou, então, tirei da tomada e botei denovo.
Ai que foi a M****, o aparelho não fazia mas nada, nem abre a gaveta. Enfim, vou tentar abri pra tirar o disco e mandar pra autorizada. Como tenho quase certeza que nao vão arrumar em 30 dias mesmo, vou comprar um A3 e um PS3.
Agora fiquei intrigado com uma coisa, pra um filme ser exibido como programaçao de tv HD ele não deveria ter sido lançado 1º em HD-DVD ou Blu ray? Pergunto isso porque entre os filmes que meu cunhado trouxe estão Ben-Hur e Operação Dragão, e pelo que eu sei, nenhum dos dois foi lançado em HD.

A programação da HDTV, salvo engano, é transmitida em 1080i ou 720p (área verde) , dependendo do canal, então provavelmente foi gravado nestas resoluções e nos discos BD e HD-DVD o conteúdo é gravado em 1080p (1920 x 1080)

Não pode ser; deve ser 1080i = 720p 3:2 (720p convertido para 1080i com duplicadores de quadro) ; não existe HDTV que transmita 1080p. nativo, a área maior do gráfico aí atrás.

E devem lançar, só que eles vão soltando a conta gotas porque o mercado ainda é pequeno; se eles derrubam tudo duma vez fica encalhado por falta de gente para comprar; o negócio mesmo desses caras e verder dezenas/centenas de milhões de discos e não apenas alguns milhares.

Os receivers Onkyo da promoção achei meio fraquinhos; o ideal seria do 705 para cima, mas eles não podem colocar na promoção; só ligando lá para saber o preço. :legal:

Murilo, esse números do Nielsen podem não refletir muito a realidade americana; eles deixam de incluir nas pesquisas várias lojas americanas importantes; inclusive algumas das maiores, tal como Wal-Mart e Amazon e acho que até a Best Buy que é a atual campeã de vendas em formatos HD por lá; em segundo vem a Amazon :tu:

Acho que a DVD EMPIRE reflete a venda de Transformers, que lá é o mais vendido.

Na Amazon, segundo os números do site HDD, Transformers está como o 10º disco mais vendido, porém vc pode ver que os Blu-ray possuem mais best-sellers bem colocados nas vendagens, o que faz o número de discos vendidos em BD ser maior.

Ocorre que este número já esteve mais favorável pro HD-DVD na própria DVD EMPIRE, alguns meses atrás, então isolado ele não quer dizer muito.

Sim, em 2006 o HD-DVD venceu a vendagem de discos, pois o Blu-ray só melhorou em dezembro de 2006, sendo que a partir de janeiro de 2007 todos os meses o BD esteve na frente :tu:

Não existe nada oficial ainda, uns dizem que sim, outros dizem que não e outros ainda dizem que será necessário um upgrade de firmware:

Segundo a Toshiba deve obter a aprovação final do DVD Forum até o final deste ano; creio que na CES 2008 em janeiro eles devem falar oficialmente sobre a compatibilidade; este disco como 51Gb raramente deverá ser usado pelos estudios, somente em casos especiais de lançamentos com muitos extras, legendas, etc; vide a qualidade do "Inside Man" aí atrás com apenas DL 30Gb :tu:

A utilidade maior será a do TL45Gb, que deverá ser um TWIN: 34Gb para HD-DVD + DVD-5 (single layer) no mesmo lado do disco; assim futuramente eles poderão eliminar os lançamentos apenas em DVD :legal:

Eu acredito que deverão ser compatíveis ou compatibilizarão por upgrade de firmware; porque saindo o TL51Gb, eles terão de eliminar os atuais SL15 e DL30 para ficar totalmente compatível com as camadas multiplas de 17GB, ou seja; passaria a ser SL17Gb, DL34GB, TL51Gb e TL34Gb+DVD-5.

Eu vejo esses descontos e promoções como sinal de que algo não vai bem, e não como se estivesse tudo as mil maravilhas.

Acho que estão vendo que as vendas não sobem como queriam, e por isso precisam fazer trocentas promoções.

Qual sua visão disso, deixando de lado um pouco a visão de torcedor do formato? (e esperando que possamos trocar idéias numa boa sobre isso)

Achei que este post de um forum gringo explica bem:

The BD software sales aren't increasing, percentage wise at least. Per Nielsen, they have actually been decreasing every so slightly (fraction of a percentage) each month since March (the YTD sales ratio has been decreasing). In the weeks since Paramount wen exclusive, HD DVD performance has increased even more. SO HD DVD is actually closing the YTD sales ratio gap, not falling further behind.

The trendline for BD is flat to down. The trendline of HD DVD is flat to up. The gains/losses are incredibly small, but they are there.

And software sales are increasing slowly because the PS3 is still selling over 100k units a month. If 20% are used as BD players, that's 20k per month BD hardware units + another 25k standalone units. If HD DVD sells 10k units per week, that's only 40k per month + another 5k per month or so for the Xbox addon.

HD DVD selling like hotcakes means they may only be selling 1-2k more effective units per month than BD, which means the reclaiming of ground will be very slow going for HD DVD.

O HD-DVD player ainda não atingiu o preço ideal (está muito caro ainda para a grande maioria das pessoas) daí essas promoções para não parecer tão caro; assim que atingir, as vendas se tornarão exponenciais; 100k unidades mês será pouco :tu:

Só para você ter uma idéia dos totais dos números envolvidos nos EUA, à medida que os preços dos aparelhos vão baixando; perceberá que o PS3 não vai segurar a onda por muito tempo; veja o paralelo com o lançamento do DVD em 1997; nós estaríamos hoje ao equivalente a 1998 na tabela: :legal:

Murilo, já sei que está dependendo de correção de firmware para fazer 1080/60 corretamente; se não me engano, chamam isso de "inverse telecine", mas 1080p/24 e 1080i estaria normal. :legal:

PS. Impressionante como reduziram o peso em relação ao A1; é pouca coisa mais pesado que um Oppo e 1cm mais alto no olhômetro.

Duas coisas gostaria de testar:

- Como ele trabalha o 1080p60 (o disco HQV mostra em 5 min)

- Como ele se sai frente ao XA1 em um display que aceita apenas 1080i (se a imagem é mais nítida, se tem diferença no BTB, etc, ambos mandando em 1080i)

O 1080p24 fica mais difícil de testar, pela falta de um display compatível.

O que ocorre com o 1080p60 do A35? É o mesmo que acontece com o A20? (veja abaixo)

Review do A20

I want to cut to the chase here. The 1080p output is primarily what separates this player from the cheaper HD-A2, and that's where I started. Looking at the battery of test patterns I have at my disposal, I immediately saw some alarming signs. Fine horizontal 1080p luma and chroma bursts from the Spears and Munsil test disc and sections of Video and Film Resolution Loss tests on the Silicon Optix HD Benchmark on HD DVD showed artifacts. In particular, the areas with the finest horizontal luma lines were strobing, or blinking. With a video processor, this would suggest that its deinterlacing of 1080i material to 1080p is suspect. But why would this be the case with a player with a 1080p output? Simple, it clearly suggests that the HD-A20 converts the 1080p signal from the disc to 1080i, and then deinterlaces it back to 1080p incorrectly.

Going further to check this with program material, I looked at the Vatican scenes from Mission: Impossible 3, which are loaded with torturous brickwork and other fine details. Sure enough, this scene threw the A20 into veritable fits at 1080p. Obvious moiré, line twitter and other artifacts were plentiful, and some of the images were noticeably softened in detail as a result of the motion artifacts.

I then reset the A20's output to 1080i and let the Gennum video processing in my Marantz VP-11S1 handle the deinterlacing from 1080i to 1080p. Looking at the test sequences I now saw full, correct response in the vertical and horizontal bursts, including the horizontal bursts in the Silicon Optix Video and Film Resolution Loss tests. And moving onto the M:I 3 Vatican scenes, the moiré, artifacts and all other detritus were gone, replaced by a clear, sharp and detailed image.

So, in other words, in my system 1080i looked better with this player, and it appears that the HD-A20 has a conversion to 1080i buried in the video processing woodpile. So, is the 1080p output of the HD-A20 worth the $100 premium offer the HD-A2? The answer will depend largely on two things. The first is whether a future firmware update is implemented that allows a true 1080p/24 or a 1080p/60 output with no interlace conversions. The second is trickier- you would probably only see an improvement with the 1080p output of the A20 if its deinterlacing of 1080i is better than what's in your display. That is certainly possible, but for the most part the 1080i deinterlacing we're seeing in most recent vintage 1080p displays is at least this good, if not better.

- Improper deinterlacing at 1080p60 for HD-DVD, and at 720p, 1080p60, 1080p24 for SDDVD upscaling. . . Solutions: hoping it's not a hardware issue and that a firmware update will fix it in the near future.

- Some disc playback errors: any dirty or scratched discs, Transformers, Top Gun . . . Solutions: light soap and warm water, firmware updates.

- Stuttering frames and then the 408bc504 error. . . Solutions: clean the disc (see above), power cycle, firmware updates.

- Audio sync issue after pause to TACP . . . Solution: do a chapter skip and then jump back to re-sync, power cycle, maybe firmware.

Verifique se já arrumaram o A20, se o A20 já estiver ok então é sinal que um firmware para o A35, para isso, deve estar a caminho :tu:

Se quiser eu testo mesmo com essa limitação, e depois que sair o firmware eu te empresto o HD-HQV pra vc verificar se arrumaram de fato.

Parece que sim, mas acho que só tem utilidade a 1080p se for usar numa TV/Projetor Full HD; senão 720p/1080i é o suficiente; creio que não obterá ganho com 1080p nessa situação:

I can verify that the XBOX HD-DVD drive add on can output 1080p via HDMI.

I have my XBOX 360 premium set to output at 1080p to my Sharp 42" Aquos using a HDMI cable. So when I watch HD-DVDs and hit the display button on my tv's remote it displays 1080p.

Also, when I watch Stand def DVDs on my HD-DVD drive it upconverts them to 1080p.

Just make sure you have your tv setup to display at 1080p.

Complementando sobre o A35:

A LG Full aceitou tanto 1080p24, 1080p60 e 1080i60; deixei no setup o ratio da tela: 1:1 :legal:

Na Sony Bravia 26" 720p, mesmo setado para mandar 1080p24 e 1080p60; o player muda o setup e só manda em 1080i.

Dei uma passada no HD-DVD Brasil (material video); com imagens em velocidade (cena do barco no rio Amazonas), o video parecia dar uns soquinhos; não rodou liso; mudei para 1080p60 e daí rodou normal a mesma cena.

Em filmes, passei rapidamente o Ciderela Man; aparentemente rodou normal; rodei este filme porque a cena 10 em determinado momento congelava no A1; eu tinha que saltar para a cena 11 para continuar assistindo; no A35 a cena 10 rodou até o final; não percebi diferenças nesse filme entre setar a saída 1080p60 e 1080p24

no entanto, encontrei esses comentários:

HDM can be produce natively @ 1080p/24 which is what you would enjoy at the theartre. Good for fast motion and transitions. Artifacts and motion blur are less likely. You can pass the native frames from your player to your set without post processing of the frames. You dont have to worry about adding frames to satisfy a 60Hz set like a DLP.

You will most likely see the difference in fast moving motion scenes.

- Thanks. So...there's an option in the HD-DVD player that I need to turn on, or are all shows 1080p/24?
- Example, I buy Transformers. Is it 24fps? Or only some shows are? I take it this 1080p/24 isn't a marketing gimmik like LCD that run at 120Hz?

Yes, turning the output to 24p will be required.

Transformers YES, Movies YES. Other things like TV shows and such, maybe, maybe not (Encoding).

Its not a marketing gimmick. Technology is at a place where it can make a difference and is able to handle it. It is still unique though. You have to be intentional about it's use (a TV that can receive it, a player that can send it).

Não liguei o som ainda, mas a imagem ficou fantástica; claro que guardadado as limitações da LG em cenas muito rápidas e/ou muito escuras, que acredito que não seja páreo para uma Pana plasma 1080p e nem para a Pioneer Kuro, mas é o que há de affordable em Full HD no Brasil nesse momento :legal:

O meu A-30 veio com o 1.0. Tentei fazer a atualização para o 1.1 via CD, mas ainda não consegui.

Gravei um CD com o arquivo .iso baixado do site da Toshiba. Mas, alguma coisa está dando errado, pois o player não reconhece o CD... Alguém imagina o que eu posso estar fazendo errado? Para gravar o CD, usei o próprio programa do Windows.

Murilo, o manual não diz absolutamente nada; a única referência, é que diz para usar o aspecto 1:1 quando reproduzir HD-DVD ou Blu-Ray, mas pelo que percebi na Bravia; se não aceitasse, o player mudaria sozinho para a resolução que a TV aceita; acho que ele detecta isso no "handshake" da HDMI; ele não tem modo forçado 1080p24; pelo que li, talvez implementem isso por firmware mais tarde; porque em algumas TVs, por erro na configuração do chip que contem as especs. da TV, o player estava detectando diferente do que a TV realmente era e não há como mudar, já que funciona só na base da detecção automático da resolução. :legal:

Esses soquinhos só notei no video HD-DVD Brasil Revisted quando setei para 1080p24 e somente em cenas rápidas; daí mudando para 1080p60 nesse video, funcionou legal até nas cenas rápidas.

O filme "Cinderela Man" rodou legal (sem soquinhos) setando em 1080p24; depois setei 1080p60 e não percebi diferença em nenhuma das 3 cenas que havia visto em 1080p24, mas eu não tenho olhos treinados para video :legal:

PS. Outra coisa interessante é que no menu do A35 tem uma opção descrita como TWIN DISC, onde você seleciona HD-DVD ou DVD (o default vem HD-DVD) :bD

Eu atualizei o meu via ethernet, tem que antes de mais nada, setar a data e a hora certa do player; habilite DHCP on e DNS on; ligue em uma das portas do seu roteador.

Por CD recomendam usar velocidade de gravação de 1x e um outro programa de gravação; o tutorial é para o A-35 mas se aplica ao seu também; informe depois se funcionou :legal::

Segue o que escrevi com a ajuda do Danilo sobre 1080p24, quando do review do BD Sony BDP-S1.

Veja se com estas descrições vc consegue verificar se a Tv está de fato trabalhando em 1080p24 ou se está fazendo de conta que recebe, mas na verdade está trabalhando em 1080p60 (o que acho mais provável, sem querer desmerecer a Tv)

Que diabos é esse tal 1080p24?

Em uma frase: É a imagem mais próxima da movimentação do cinema.

Isso é um pouco difícil de explicar e, mais ainda, de fazer com que a outra pessoa entenda Eu, inclusive, tenho algumas dúvidas ainda. Se eu escrever alguma impropriedade solicito que me corrijam, para que fique claro para todos.

No cinema nós temos 24 quadros por segundos, e a varredura do quadro é feita em uma única passagem.

O sinal NTSC roda na velocidade de 29,97 fps (30 fps). Para poder exibir um filme na Tv é preciso ajustar a velocidade do filme, caso contrário ele ficaria acelerado. Essa adaptação de 24 fps para 30 fps é o chamado 3:2 pulldown, que consiste em dividir cada frame em linhas pares e ímpares, para exibir alternadamente cada linha, em um instante de tempo diferente.

Com isso, são criados 6 frames entrelaçados (fantasmas) por segundo (que não existiam nos 24 quadros originais), e tudo é exibido em 60Hz.

Um player que libere em 1080p24, para um projetor compatível com 1080p24, não precisa fazer todo esse processo acima, pois já manda em 24p.

E qual é a diferença para o 1080p60 e para o 1080i60?

Em um player que solte 1080p60, para um projetor 1080p60, esse processo acima terá que ser feito para que possa haver a detecção dos quadros fantasmas, para reconstruir os 24 quadros originais (sem nenhum entrelaçamento), para ser exibido de forma progressiva. Esse processo pode resultar em uma leve perda de nitidez. Então se o player puder mandar em 1080p24, para um display 1080p24, o resultado será melhor.

No HD-DVD, que solta em 1080i60 (primeira geração de players) o progressive scan é feito pelo projetor. E isso não é muito problema, pois todos os projetores 1080p ou 720p podem fazer o trabalho que seria feito pelo player.

Então, seja 1080i60, seja 1080p60, ambos são muito próximos, pois o “p” vai ser feito em algum lugar, seja no player seja no projetor, mas em ambos todo aquele trabalho acima é feito, para a exibição.

O grande lance está no 1080p24, que solta a imagem sem todo o processamento feito acima, com potencial para dar um melhor resultado. Pelo que li em fóruns lá fora, o resultado fica melhor em 1080p24 do que em 1080p60, a movimentação ficaria mais fluída e com um pouco mais de nitidez.

Sim Murilo; eu não sei é como detectar isso na TV; não há um OSD da TV dizendo qual resolução que está processando; só o OSD do player é que informa que está enviando 1080p24; o disco HQV não testaria ?

A unica referência mais próxima de informação que encontrei foi no modelo europeu de idêntico design; 42LY95, guardadas as diferenças regionais, scart, PAL, 50Hz; etc; esse pixel mapping 1:1 existe no menu da LG Brasil, mas não dá para saber verdadeiramente quanto ao 1080p/24/60 :legal:

Eu desconfio que processa mesmo 1080p24 por causa dos soquinhos em video, pois 1080p60 é essencialmente video e o video que eu testei (Brazil Revealed) não se deu bem com o 1080p24, mas posso estar enganado, vou fazer testes com outros videos "Planet Earh" e "China Revealed" para ver se ocorre a mesma coisa.

Paramount couldn't wait for the Nielsen numbers to announce that Transformers has become the best selling day one and week one HD title on Blu-ray or HD DVD. Blu-ray or HD DVD is important, because it appears even its 190,000 HD DVDs sold in the first week is still behind 300's week one mark of 250k combined. Still, over 100,000 of those sold on the first day and definitely make this the biggest exclusive release since Sony's Casino Royale broke the 100k copies shipped barrier back in March. Two things appear to be confirmed, that the lack of lossless audio wasn't that big of a deal to many buyers, and that HD sales are still miniscule when compared to the 8.3 million Transformer DVDs that sold in the first week.

Sources I'm talking to at the company suggest that an announcement could come soon that Microsoft will unveil a new version of Xbox 360 featuring a built-in HD-DVD player and HD tuner. The device might be officially unveiled during Bill Gates' keynote at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in January, which could be a bummer since it misses this upcominhg holiday shopping season.

It's true you can already play HD-DVD's through the Xbox but you need another device to plug in. Microsoft sells that player for $179, but it's not clear that the new Xbox360HD will simply be $179 more than the current Xbox 360 without it. Consumers might be getting a break if they buy the all-in-one unit.

I haven't heard pricing yet: details to come. But the blogs are all over this. Several analyst firms I talked with this morning say an HD version of Xbox wasn't expected until mid-to late 2008, so anything earlier would be a surprise.

All the hub-bub began with a story in the Australian publication, "Smarthouse," after comments it had gotten from an executive at Toshiba. But The Seattle Post-Intelligencer says no new Xbox is coming after what sound like pretty definitive comments it had gotten from Microsoft; that maybe Microsoft will license its technology to Toshiba for a new kind of all-in-one player/recorder/game-player/HD thingy. Intriguing.

We've placed several calls into the company seeking official comment. Some folks are looking into it; others haven't returned the calls yet. But the folks I'm talking to off-the-record say an announcement is coming.

This could be a big deal for both Microsoft and the HD-DVD movement. Microsoft has already seen a significant pop in Xbox console sales in the wake of the Halo 3 release. In fact, some market research suggests that sales have tripled normal volume. That makes sense since as we've reported there are about 2.5 million Xboxers still playing the game on older consoles, who have not traded up to the new 360. Halo 3 was widely expected to get them to do so.

At the same time, back at the Digital Life Expo, we detailed how HD-DVD was outselling Blu-Ray on laptops by better than 8-1. It stands to reason that laptop users who have onboard HD-DVD would also want that same format at home.

Now that Microsoft is making it even easier for consumers to use the format in such a popular game-player, this is more bad news for Blu-Ray, and of course its primary backer, Sony which makes that competing platform available in PlayStation. All of this becomes much more important in Microsoft's grander plan of using the Xbox to invade the living room. A kind of Trojan Horse. An all-in-one digital entertainment hub masquerading as a game-player.

parece haver uma luz no fim do túnel em relaçâo ao destravamento em alguns modelos HD DVD. O pessoal na Austrália já está usufruindo dessa opção, pelo que tudo indica. Parece que o FW upgrade 2.5.1 é a solução para deixar os players region-free, além de corrigir o problema do 1080p/24fps.

É aguardar e torcer para que o FW saia logo, para a felicidade dos proprietários de players HD DVD:legal:

But the "secret cd" was only meant for Australia, and if someone were to host it then that would violate a trust that would probably mean that we lose access to any future "secret cds".

Plus, from what I've been told, it will only work in Aussie machines anyway.

Pelo que vi o player é bem pesado e muito bem construído, um belo aparelho sem dúvida nenhuma...

E têm o cooler na parte de trás, num me lembro mas acho que o A3 têm também né ?

Chegou hoje meu "Transformers" :D (comprei do AMarinho)

Passei algumas cenas e achei bem legal a imagem, mas concordo com a nota de 4 e 1/2 estrelas pro vídeo, do HDD. A imagem está ótima mas não está perfeeeeita :tu: (tenho discos HD-DVD melhores, como Batman e Hulk)

Gostei da legenda em português, é o meu primeiro filme HD-DVD com legendas em PT :) (tenho alguns show com legenda em PT)

Gostei do disco e depois que assistir comento mais :legal:

Washington, D.C. (October 26, 2007) -- Wal-Mart has begun selling a Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player for $198 at selected stores.

That's according to Fortune Magazine's web site.

The high-def DVD player normally retails for $299, although it can be found for as low as $227 at e-commerce sites.

HD DVD supporters are hopeful that the lower price will generate more sales as HD DVD battles the Blu-ray format in the high-def disc war.

The lowest priced Blu-ray player (Sony) retails for $499, although most stores and web sites are carrying it for around $449 or less.

Fortune reports that Wal-Mart says it believes that both HD DVD and Blu-ray players will be popular items this holiday season.
“We reduced our HD DVD Toshiba player, the generation-two, to $198 earlier in the week,” Wal-Mart spokeswoman Melissa O’Brien told Fortune. “It’s happening now, and that’s really all I can tell you. We don’t give any information on what we’re planning to do for the holidays. We know HD DVD and Blu-ray are going to be popular items this holiday season for some of our customers. … They will be more popular this year than they were in previous years.”

O'Brien also dismissed rumors that Wal-Mart stores would only carry 18 units of the lower-priced Toshiba player.

“There are no limited quantities for stores or purchases," she told the publication.

Eu sempre atualizo o meu quando sai um; creio que esse A2 nacional use o mesmo firmware US, mas é bom conferir no manual se é isso mesmo; vai que esse firmware US bloqueie a R4 e habilite a R1 :bD

É bem demorado, mas tente fazer direto via internet porque o servidor da Toshiba já detecta o seu player e descarrega o firmware que serve para ele.

Acabei de colocar uma resposta no forum highdefdigest sobre essa coletânea de abobrinhas do Josh para defender o indefensável. Melhores codecs, maiores bitrates e codecs de audio lossless vão no mínimo empatar, mas na maioria das vezes ganhar do resultado que seria possível com menos recursos ou banda. Claro que há filmes e trilha sonoras que ficariam muito bem em DVD com DD2.0, de tão ruim que são as fontes, assim como trabalhos porcos de quem codifica, mas quando se trata de produção em massa, quanto menos compromissos assumidos, mais fácil é manter a qualidade.
O medidor de bitrate do PS3 irrita o Josh, e os fanboys do HD-DVD porque resalta o óbvio: o BD suporta maior bitrate! Mas ainda que bitrates não garantam qualidade, como o Josh defendeu ardorosamente, certamente não estraga a qualidade, coisa que FALTA DE BITRATE pode fazer, e frequentemente o faz!

Sim, mas o que o Josh está criticando é a cultura do bitrate criada pela Sony com o mostrador de bitrates do PS3 que foi uma das piores coisas já inventadas para o HT; quando há coisas muito mais importantes como a habilidade do compressionista, etc.

Disse ainda que um monte de gente desinformada anda enviando milhares de emails a WB, pedindo para que façam discos diferenciados BD com maiores bitrates que os do HD-DVD; acho que daqui há pouuco a WB se enche o s.... dessa estória e se torna exclusiva HD-DVD :bD

Discordo totalmente que o medidor de bitrate do PS3 seja "uma das piores coisas já inventadas para o HT".

Veja que tentaram até mentir falando que o medidor seria "turbinado" e não mostraria o bitrate real, e mostrei aqui no Forum, com fotos, que o medidor é sim muito preciso, ao exibir fotos de videos a 25MB/S medindo 25MB/S.

Ele é que está dizendo que o medidor do PS3 é inócuo e frequentemente impreciso e que agora qualquer um, não importando quão ignorante seja tecnologicamente, pode acreditar-se um expert no campo da video reprodução só olhando para o medidor de bitrates :bD

O medidor é útil sim, e bem divertido. Duvido que vc não gostaria de verificar o bitrate de seus discos HD-DVD... ;)

A questão aqui é a seguinte, falando bem sinceramente:

HD-DVD falando: "Tenho especificações 'piores', e como não posso ter as mesmas especificações do formato concorrente então tenho que criticar o 'excesso' de bitrate deles, bem como os recursos que permitem mostrar o quão alto é o bitrate que eles utilizam" ;)

Querer ser melhor, ou igual, desconstruindo o que os outros possuem de bom, é a pior estratégia.

Melhor mostrar serviço, e isso todos podemos atestar que o HD-DVD tem feito, com discos de excelente qualidade, então não é preciso "apelar" para argumentos deste nível :legal:

Pessoal, bom dia, estou com um dilema que está me encucando.

Vou para os USA semana que vem e estou muito tentado a comprar um A2 por 200 dolares. Mas tenho algumas dúvidas que me deixam com o pé atrás:

- Quais são as vantagens do A3 em relação ao A2? Vou perder muito? Sei que ele é 1080i, mas minha TV também é e estou muito satisfeito com as imagens do blu-ray.
- A historia do disco de 51gb. Será que vou ter um peso de papel quando estes discos sairem? Lembram quando falaram que essa historia podia ser um tiro no pé? Aí esta. Sou um exemplo vivo.
- Cras-SP, vi que vc trocou seu aparelho. O que te levou a fazer isso? Foi mais pelo lance do 1080p ou por alguma deficiência do player?

Agradeço desde já pela atenção dos colegas:legal:

Cras-SP, vi que vc trocou seu aparelho. O que te levou a fazer isso? Foi mais pelo lance do 1080p ou por alguma deficiência do player?

Eu não troquei o HD-A1, ainda estou com ele, claro que os players vão evoluindo com o tempo; então peguei o A35 pelo lance dos 1080p, por haver adquirido uma TV Full HD e pelo lance dele já suportar todos os novos formatos de audio com a HDMI 1.3a e por ter analógicas 5.1 igual ao A1, pois hoje o meu receiver é um Marantz 7300 Ose que não tem porta HDMI e até eu decidir comprar um receiver moderno vou utilizando as 5.1. :tu:

Creio que o A3 não seria superior ao A2 em qualidade de imagem, som, etc; o que ele tem de diferente é que a construção foi bem simplificada com o uso do chip SoC em relação às gerações anteriores; a terceira geração não usa mais processadores da Intel; por isso, tem um design slim e são bem mais leves e muito mais baratos em termos de custo para a Toshiba; ou seja, às vésperas de um lançamento de um A4, por exemplo, eles poderiam jogar tranquilamente o preço do A3 para uns $149 ao invés dos atuais $198 do A2; comentam que o tempo de "load", "eject", etc; também ficaram mais rápidos na terceira geração.

Se o pessoal de lá não está esquentando a cabeça com 51Gb, acho que você não deveria esquentar também; se ele não for compatível com uma grande base de players, os estudios nem lançam filmes em 51Gb porque sabem que não vão vender.

Veja o caso da WB que lançará somente agora o Terminator 3 em BD, porque identificou uma boa oportunidade de mercado nesse final de ano, pois sabe que só falta este para os azuis completarem a coleção Terminator e o lançarão com um PIP falso, porque não há players BD ainda com suporte a PIP igual ao HD-DVD :legal:

PS. Aí atrás tem um anúncio de uma loja em NY que está vendendo o A3 por $199. :tu:

O lance do som pra mim ainda não me preocupa. Além de não ser tão fanático por perfeição sonora, não tenho um receiver ou cash pra investir em um bom. Saída ótica resolve pra mim por enquanto.

Acho que vou pegar o bixo e poder voltar a comprar discos sem me preocupar qual é o estúdio, blablabla.:legal:

Me contestem por favor se eu estiver errado.

O vídeo no HD-DVD (Ou Bluray) está codificado em 1080i.
Via de regra este aparelho estará conectado via HDMI (conexão digital)

Toda TV moderna (LCD, Plasma) é progressiva.

Portanto haverá desentrelaçamento ou no player, ou na TV.
Portanto se o player soltar 1080i, a TV vai desentrelaçar para 1080p.

Portanto um player que soltar 1080p só fornecerá melhor imagem se o seu desentrelaçador for melhor que a da TV. E é de se esperar que uma TV de US$ 3000 tenha um desentrelaçador melhor que um aparelho de 200 dólares, embora não necessariamente seja o caso.

Partindo dessas premissas, não vejo vantagem em player 1080p sobre o 1080i.

Se eu estiver errado por favor me expliquem onde.

Creio que geralmente não; um video pode estar codificado no disco ou como 1080p/60 ou filmes (película) em 1080p/24; eles já são Full HD nativos; essa é a grande diferença para a resolução padrão HDTV (720p ou 1080i) :tu:

Se a TV/Projetor trabalharem com Full HD direto do disco (não são todos que aceitam) não haverá nenhum processo de scaler.

Certo, o A2/A3 é o melhor negócio hoje para quem não está pensando em trocar sua TV/Projetor 720p/1080i para algo Full HD; por isso são os modelos que mais vendem :legal:

Acho que o vídeo só pode estar codificado em 1080i60 ou 1024p. Talves, se existir, 1080p30, mas certamente 1080p60 não cabe em nenhum formato HD atual.

Pois é. Embora a origem da imagem seja progressiva (película), a imagem vai estar no disco em 1080 60i ou 1080 24P. No segundo caso o player vai fazer o invert telecine e soltar 1080i e a TV vai desentrelaçar. Como recebeu o sinal digital, não houve perdas. Sei lá, continuo na dúvida...

Pois é; esse 1080p24 que é a grande dúvida quanto aos displays Full HD; parece que só dá para se detectar no olhômetro se o display está convertendo ou não; se alguém puder postar um tutorial para que se possa dizer com certeza se está havendo ou não a conversão para 1080p60 no display e/ou no player .... :legal: :

As expected, Transformers is at the top this week on the Nielsen VideoScan charts courtesy of Home Media Magazine. What some didn't expect is for Blu-ray to continue to outsell HD DVD overall, despite the fact Blu-ray didn't have any notable titles that week. But wait you ask, didn't Transformers sell more copies than any other movie? Well, that's where it gets interesting, while Paramount claims they sold 190k copies, Nielsen only counted 115k. Some might say that's because they don't count Wal-Mart, and while that could be the case, the Wal-Mart near our house still doesn't carry either format. Judging by the titles in the list and how the list compares to last week's, we'd say that Blu-ray's buy one get one free deal went pretty well and we really can't wait to see what the HD DVD camp is willing to do to offset Spiderman 3 in a few weeks -- but we'd bet no matter what they do, it'll be good for the consumer.

Na verdade a Nielsen reflete bem o mercado, basta ver a DVD EMPIRE.

Lá não estava valendo a promoção da Disney de comprar um e levar dois, então o HD-DVD acabou ficando na frente, por 50.91%, contra 40.09% do Blu-ray, isto na semana de vendas do Transformers, a melhor semana de semana de vendas do HD-DVD no ano :legal:

Mesmo na semana de vendas do Transformers o Blu-ray reagiu bem, e o resultado da DVD EMPIRE comparando com a Nielsen aparece dentro da margem de erro de qualquer pesquisa. :tu:

Acabei de ver "Transformers" :legal:

Muito legal, com ótima imagem e áudio muito bom, com ótimos efeitos surround :aplauso:

Alguns momentos do filme são meio bobos, mas no geral diverte um bocado :tu:

Não sei se já postaram isso em algum lugar, mas assistam os letreiros até o final (tenho mania disso, acelerando), pois depois que acaba vai pra uma tela com trailers em HD (que não vi como acessar do menu principal, então pode ser um easter egg, nem tão escondido assim), e um dos trailers é do filme Iron Man que será lançado no ano que vem :legal:

Geralmente, mas nem sempre, Planet Earth e Heroes são videos e foram gravados nos discos em 1080p24, conforme estão comentando: :legal:

Estava suspeitando disso porque Planet Earth não dá "soquinhos" quando seto o player 1080p24 e Brazil e China Revisted já dão e funcionam bem quando seto o player para 1080p60 .

Por enquanto os Wal-Marts estão se estocando, os players ainda não estão disponíveis para venda; as vendas começariam em 3/11; há informações de que não iriam mais renovar o estoque de nenhum BD player com exceção do PS3 :legal:

PS. Talvez aqueles 2 milhões da Fu-Yuan se converteram em HD-A2W :bD

Beleza; só fique ciente que pela saída óptica não há como processar os novos formatos de audio; o player converte todos para o DD ou DTS convencional que hoje já conhecemos nos DVDs e depois envia para o receiver :legal:

Valeu Cras, eu tenho visto os BD's em DD ou DTS comum mesmo. Mas geralmente o som deles é ainda assim ligeiramente superior aos dos DVD's comuns. Deve ser pelo bitrate que geralmente é 640 kbs ao inves de 400 e poucoo, certo?

Creio que há 2 situações; em uma o disco HD já possui gravada trilha DD e/ou DTS comum; aí entra o que você disse; basta escolher estas no menu; na outra situação; todas as trilhas do disco são com os novos formatos; neste caso vai depender da qualidade do chip conversor do aparelho que irá converter o novo formato de audio para o DD ou DTS e depois enviá-lo pela óptica; sendo que essa saída consegue enviar também PCM estéreo, desde que o receiver reconheça :tu:

Compre o BD Japonês na HMV (http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2503044), que tem áudio e legenda em português, além do áudio em inglês PCM 5.1. Eu tenho e recomendo :tu: (chega em 3 dias e sai uns R$ 80)

muirlo fiz duas comprar na HMV , um pedido foi face/off ,air force one o outro foi con-air e the rock , em seguida vou pedir crinson tide.

me diz uma coisa os menus são em japones?
o titulo que fica na lateral da caixa,aquele que a gente ve quando ta procurando numa estante por exemplo é em japones? por que a capa da frente eu vi que vem com o titulo em ingles original

O contrato da WB com o BDA termina em 31/10/07; há muita especulação se eles renovarão ou não: :legal:

This past week I was at a WB Press Event for their Q4 titles. The Toshiba Team was on hand I interviewed both them and WB about Q4.

Off the record I asked if anything would be happening on the 31st concerning the possible expiration of the BD contract with WB and they both danced around the question, but one of them said that something interested... "If I were a betting person, which I am, I would bet something..". then I was interrupted and missed the rest of it.
Read in to it what you will, but my personal belief is something is going to happen or be announced come the 31st.

1080p24 is roughly equivalent to 1080i/48

The use of a 60hz refresh rate with a 24/48hz source requires 3:2 pulldown to display properly and this introduces "judder" (which is not pleasant)!

Esse preço só vale para o "black friday", o dia seguinte ao feriado de ação de graças, nesse dia todas as grandes lojas fazem uma liquidação para marcar o início da temporada de compras natalinas; creio que depois volta ao patamar de $220, enquantos os A2 estiverem por $198; nesse único dia pode se esperar A2 até por $149, que chuto que deve ser o preço "street" do Venturer :tu:

Só sei que o úlltimo firmware oficial do A2 é também o 2.5.0; não vi testemunhos quanto a funcionar no A2 (EUA/Canada); vi testemunhos da Europa e Australia, mas lá os players tem outra designação; daí, só testando mesmo :legal:

O firmware 2.5.1 eu baixei antes que o tirassem do site; vou tentar disponibilizá-lo para download em algum lugar e te aviso por MP :tu:

PS. Não esqueça que o A2 já tem que estar atualizado para a versão 2.5 do firmware oficial antes de rodar a atulização do firmware regionfree (2.5.1) :legal:

Destaque para Vanishing Point - Imagem ANIMAL!

Pena que os Hd's do Sky+ Britanico não funcionam no nacional, então os filmes foram ripados em x264, perderam um pouco de definição, mas mesmo assim, ficaram ótimos.
Ainda tem alguns shows para ripar.

PS: Esses filmes não sairam em BD nem HD-DVD, fica minha dúvida como eles passam em HD lá..

Conforme falei linhas atrás, não passa de FUD o boato sobre a Warner não renovar o contrato com o Blu-ray, e ela já assinala que ano que vem decidirá por um dos formatos, considerando os resultados do Q4 de 2007.

Also there was Dan Silverberg, VP of high-definition media for Warner Home Video, which since Paramount’s move to the HD DVD camp is the only studio to support both next-generation formats.

That may not be for long, Silverberg said. “One thing that may be changing is our strategy,” he said. “When both formats launched and hardware prices were high, we made a decision to support both formats and let the consumer decide. But now that hardware pricing is affordable for both Blu-ray and HD DVD, it appears consumers no longer want to decide — so the notion of staying in two formats for the duration is something we are re-evaluating now that we are in the fourth quarter.”

Silverberg noted that Warner has the top-selling Blu-ray title of all time with 300 and is consistently No. 1 or No. 2 in both Blu-ray sales market share and in number of Blu-ray titles in the market.

“We can definitely talk Blu-ray,” he said. “We are committed to the format.” At the Monday morning kickoff, the featured speaker was David Berman, director of Home Theater Specialists of America (HTSA), a buying consortium of 62 dealers and 800 installers with combined revenue of more than half a billion dollars a year. He said the HTSA supports Blu-ray because a member survey found 92% favoring Blu-ray over HD DVD.

The press was given a fact sheet of more statistics and Blu-ray milestones, including the fact that even in a week in which Transformers came out on HD DVD and with no comparable title in its lineup, Blu-ray Discs still managed to outsell discs in the rival format. So far this year, Blu-ray titles have outsold HD DVD titles by a 2-to-1 margin. Since inception, Blu-ray software sales have accounted for 61% of high-def disc software sales. And 17 of the 20 top-selling high-definition disc titles are available on Blu-ray.

There also were indications that the Blu-ray camp is done playing nice. At the entrance to the opening breakfast, at the Hollywood and Highland complex, was a huge blowup of a Deadline Hollywood article by renegade online columnist Nikki Finke. The article raised questions about Paramount Home Entertainment’s claim that it sold 190,000 copies of Transformers on HD DVD in a single week.
